This election will for sure become a case study in HBR and with behavioral scientists. My takeaways:
1.”Make America Great Again” vs. “Stronger Together” – the text analytics showed that people understood and internalized better what MAGA meant. It resonated stronger as a tagline/slogan. It was pointed, with a clear call to action.
2. HRC’s negatives were 2-1 in the social blogosphere (text analytics articles)..and more articulated on specific areas of “crookedness”. Suggesting stickiness of the message.
3. His message was tangible pocket book based, vs. hers resonated in a philosophical-intangible push. There needs to be tangible benefits for folks to rally around.
4. She brought in a coalition of groups; but the Trump message targeted one specific, but large blue collared workers. But, it spilled into reaching out to the white majority (he won with men and women; college educated/college uneducated in this group.. it is a fact, not an opinion). We know laser focus always brings greater ROI.
5. Polls under sampled rural America, and were skewed, which led to erroneous conclusions.
6. DJT got $2B in unpaid/free advertising…so, he did overspend in this election.
